  5.     DBPREP is a utility to allow DOS 4.0, DOS 5.0, and DR DOS to be installed
  6. as a dualboot function on top of OS/2 2.0, and recover to OS/2 in case
  7. something goes wrong during the DOS install.
  8.  
  9.     Since, DOS can only exist on an active primary partition, the DBPREP
  10. utility should only be used if OS/2 is located on the C: partition.
  11. There are two possible parameters for this utility -- /PREP and /RECOVER.

  14. - How to get started:
  15.  
  16.        There is only one file you need to copy from the bulletin board,
  17.        dbprep.com. Copy the utility dbprep.com to your OS2 subdirectory.
  18.  
  19.     *  ** It is highly recommended that you make a backup copy of your
  20.        OS/2 config.sys and autoexec.bat files before executing the
  21.        dbprep /prep command.
  22.            OS/2 cannot boot up without the config.sys file.
  23.        If during the RECOVER operation an error message indicates
  24.        that the config.sys file cannot be restored, you can manually
  25.        restore the config.sys file with the copy you saved earlier.
  26.            Fortunately, OS/2 can boot up without the autoexec.bat file
  27.        and the user is still able to open and use DOS sessions as well
  28.        as WINOS2.  However, by making a copy of the autoexec.bat file
  29.        there is no need to reconstruct your path settings etc...
  30.        It is strictly for the sake of convenience that you make
  31.        a copy of the OS/2 autoexec.bat file.

  35. - How to use the /PREP option:
  36.  
  37.        Open an OS/2 window or full screen session.  At the command prompt
  38.     type  "dbprep /prep"
  39.     For example:
  40.                 C:\dbprep /prep
  41.  
  42.     The /PREP parameter cannot be used if DOS is booted.
  43.     /PREP parameter can only be used in OS/2.
  44.  
  45. - Purpose of /PREP option:
  46.  
  47.       Once the command dbprep /prep has been executed, the system is now
  48.    ready for DOS to be installed.  The user should perform the recommended
  49.    shutdown prior to rebooting with DOS.  The user can either execute
  50.    the  DOS install program, or execute SYS.COM and manually copy the
  51.    DOS files to the DOS subdirectory.

  55. - Tips for Installing DOS after running DBPREP /PREP:

  57. - DOS 4.0 and DOS 5.0
  58.  
  59.         System Transfer using SYS.COM
  60.         -----------------------------
  61.         1. Boot DOS from diskette drive.
  62.         2. Run sys.com,
  63.              for example:
  64.                          A>SYS C:
  65.  
  66.         3. Make a subdirectory C:\DOS and copy the DOS files to this directory.
  67.  
  68.         4. Replace OS/2's CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files in
  69.            the root directory with DOS' CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files.
  70.            NOTE: DOS will not boot with OS/2's CONFIG.SYS file.
  71.            Change any reference to 'A:' in CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  72.            to 'C:\DOS'

  75.         DOS Install from Diskettes
  76.         --------------------------
  77.         1. Boot from the DOS install diskette.
  78.  
  79.         2. Install normally. The install procedure will automatically
  80.            replace OS/2's CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  82.            WARNING!! DOS 4.0 --  DO NOT select the option "update all DOS
  83.                                  files on fixed disk;" otherwise you will
  84.                                  lose the OS/2 files which have the same
  85.                                  file name.
  86.  
  87.                                  SELECT "Copy non-system files to directory
  88.                                  specified" to avoid losing OS/2 files.
  89.  
  90.            WARNING!! DOS 5.0 --  If you have multiboot installed on your
  91.                                  machine, DOS 5.0 will make the C: partition
  92.                                  startable.  You will need to run OS/2 's
  93.                                  FDISK program to make the BOOT MANAGER
  94.                                  startable and the C: parititon bootable.

  103.         DR DOS Install from Diskettes
  104.         --------------------------
  105.         1. Boot the DR DOS install diskette.
  106.         2. Install normally, noting the following:
  107.  
  108.                 - WARNING!! -- DO NOT select the "replace DOS files" option,
  109.                                otherwise OS/2 files with the same name will
  110.                                be written over.
  111.  
  112.  
  113.                 - WARNING!! -- DO NOT Backup the old operating system.
  114.  
  115.                 - WARNING!! -- If you have multiboot installed on your machine
  116.                                you will see the following message displayed
  117.                                during the install of DR DOS:
  118.  
  119.                                WARNING:
  120.                                  This drive is not the current boot drive.
  121.                                  If you wish to boot DR DOS from this drive,
  122.                                  complete the installation, and then run
  123.                                  FDISK and select the drive as the bootable
  124.                                  partition.
  125.  
  126.                                DO NOT run DR DOS' FDISK to change the C:
  127.                                partition to bootable.  The Boot Manager
  128.                                is suppose to be the bootable partition.

  132.      Once DOS is installed on the system, the user can boot up with OS/2
  133.    by executing the command "c:\os2\boot /os2."  Likewise, if the
  134.    user is running OS/2 and wishes to boot up with DOS, the command
  135.    "boot /dos" should be executed.

  137.        If for some reason the user encounters some problems
  138.    or wishes to forfeit the dualboot environment, then
  139.    the user can execute the dbprep command using the /recover
  140.    parameter to return the system back to its original state.

  145. - How to use the /RECOVER option:
  146.  
  147.      The /RECOVER parameter cannot be run in OS/2.  It can only be used
  148.    in a pure DOS environment, for instance PC DOS.  At the command
  149.    prompt type "dbprep /recover"

  151.               C:\os2\dbprep /recover

  154. - Purpose of /RECOVER option:
  155.  
  156.      The /RECOVER option will delete the files necessary to boot DOS and
  157.   restore the OS/2 files needed to boot.  Basically, the /RECOVER option
  158.   restores the system back to a non-dualboot environment.
